Why import a car from Northern Ireland to ROI?

Because with the same mileage and specifications, a car is considerably cheaper in Northern Ireland. The savings differ from car to car, but many of our ROI customers find it well worth crossing the border to buy a car. They typically save, after tax and expenses, several thousand Euros on their car.

Why import with TC Autos?

They say practice makes perfect and at TC Autos we've had plenty of that with regards to importing to ROI. All our vehicles are updated online daily and we are perfectly placed if you want to travel to view our stock. When you do, you clearly expect not only to get a good price, but also to know everything you need to know before collecting the car, and the assurance that the car will be available for you to collect. We have our own inhouse specialists that can help you through the VRT process so the transaction is flawless from the outset. Additionally, if and when you need help - should it be servicing or anything else - then we're only a heartbeat away.

How easy is it to import a car to ROI with TC?

Sorry to coin a cheesy phrase but it's as easy as 1 - 2 - 3!

  1. Click to browse our used selection online and visit us for a coffee whilst you test drive your car.
  2. Arrange payment for your vehicle.
  3. Arrange taxation and registration with the full guidance and support of our specialist sales team.

What is involved in registration?

When you collect the car, you need the full VRT4 (used) document. We will give it to you and you will need to present it to the Irish vehicle registration office. You also need to present a simple registration form that we will also give you. When you return home you will need to:
  • Within 24 hours of arriving in Ireland, you need to present the car at the VRO and mention any significant extra (leather, Sat Nav, etc.)
  • You will get a document with your Irish registration number on it
  • Get your new plates done.
  • Change your insurance to the new plate
  • Once you have received (by post) the Vehicle Registration Certificate, go to the tax office to tax your vehicle

What is involved in taxation?

Like with any other car registered in Ireland, your TC Autos car will need to have Vehicle Road Tax (VRT) paid. Since July 2008, the amount due depends on two things: the value of your car and its CO2 emissions.

We give you the CO2 emissions. For the value of the car, the Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) that will be taken into account, not the price you paid. To find about what the OMSP of your car is, click here to visit the official Online VRT Calculator.
